Every Story Has A Beginning. Do You Know Yours?
“Once upon a time…” if you have ever dreamed of being a princess in a fairytale, then your own story might have had this famous opening line. The opening line and origins story is the starting point of every great fairytale. The Origins gives a brief yet descriptive history of events that set the stage for all of the adventures about to unfold.
The Origins of every story also hold secret clues and hidden mysteries for those who are truly seeking adventure.
When I started my own journey, I spent a lot of time working on my opening lines. I wasted precious energy trying to find a starting point, when exactly did MY fairytale start? “Once upon a time, in the Kingdom of…”, “There lived a beautiful Princess named…” I grappled and struggled with the origins of my story.
The reason I struggled with the beginning lines is because I was trying to write my own story; I didn’t know I was already a part of something much greater. A story with an origin better then anything I could dream up or create on my own.
You see, I had already heard the origins story many times throughout my life. Some call it the story of Creation. I heard it in church, I heard it from my parents, I read it in the Bible. I believed it was truth but it took many years for me to fully and completely understand how the Creation story impacts my present life in a very real and powerful way.
You might have heard the Origins story I am about to share at some point in your life, so today I’m asking you to listen with new ears. As you read each word ask God for a clear understanding of your Role in the adventure. Ask God to give you new eyes to see the hidden mysteries of creation in the same way we can see the magic in fairytales.
Are you sitting on the edge of your seat? Are you ready for the epic beginnings of Your story? Are you ready to leave behind science and any former teaching, everything you know and understand of this life for the Truth?
I am going to share with you the inconceivable and extraordinary account of how we landed in the most enchanted Kindgom we call Earth. I’ll also introduce you to the Most High God and King, our Creater, and Author of the Fairytale experience we generally call Life.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:1-2).
Stop right here. I want you to close your eyes for a moment. What do you see? Complete darkness, nothingness, there is only God.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day (Genesis 1:3-5).
And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day (Genesis 1:6-8).
Now take a moment to really look at the beautifully painted tapestry that we call sky. Can you even look into the bright light of the sun for too long without shading your eyes from its powerful rays?
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good (Genesis 1:9-10).
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day (Genesis 1:11-13).
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night (Genesis 1:14-16).
He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day (1:16-19).
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day (Genesis 1:20-23).
And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good (Genesis 1:24-25).
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:26-27).
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so (Genesis 1:28-30).
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day (Genesis 1:31).
In just six days, all of the mysteries of the earth were created, the seasons were put into motion, and the first man and woman were established as rulers over all the land and wildlife.
The Origins Story sets the stage for the beginning of Our Fairytale Life on this earth. The story sheds light on the question of who our Creator and King is. It explains a huge part of our purpose. We are to rule over land.
It is no wonder fairytales often incorporate the astounding mysteries of nature such as enchanted forests, and talking animals. Our oneness with the universe is the beginning of everything, and the heart of a True Princess is always attuned to the miraculous world around her.
A Princess can feel with every fiber of her being that creation is alive and she is fully aware of the power of God which is constantly on display in the universe.
This week, I want to challenge you to take some time out each day and pause to discover, appreciate, and bask in this beautiful and enchanted world we live in. An enchanted Kindgom designed specifically for our personal enjoyment in the Fairytale of Life.
Find a place in nature uniquely your own. Find a tree, a flower, a park or fountain that you can visit frequently. Make the place a commemorative landmark in the beginning of this journey. Say a prayer and Thank God for all that He made. Tell Him you Believe and ask Him to open your eyes to see His creation in a new light and prepare to be amazed!
Remember You are a True Princess, a daughter of the King of Light. You were put on this earth to Shine.
