Wednesday in the Word: Where is God in the midst of a Pandemic?

With the number of new Coronavirus cases increasing daily all over the country, and world, you might be wondering where is God in the middle of this pandemic???

The media is spreading fear like wildfire, as Scientists, Health Officials, and Governments scramble to contain the spread of the virus, find a cure, and offer up protection to everyone at risk.

Wash your hands, where a mask, cover your coughs, sanitize, and for goodness sake, stay home if you are sick!! All are great suggestions, based on science, of how to stay safe when disease is prowling through the night.

God’s Word also offers us many promises of protection! A few years ago I stumbled across Psalm 91 when my daughter was struggling with anxiety of seeing her friends become sick at school. I chose to make it my prayer for my family. And today for Wednesday in the Word, I want to share it with you.

Psalm 91
You who sit in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe.”

That’s right — he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards, his huge outstretched arms protect you — under them you are perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.

Fear nothing — not wild wolves in the night, nor flying arrows in the day, not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon.

Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will ever graze you. You’ll stand untouched,  watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses.

Yes, because God is your refuge, the High God your very own home. Evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door.

He ordered his angel’s to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

If you hold onto me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know amd trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”

This scripture is absolutely amazing. I’m speechless everytime I read it as I try to comprehend how many times God has protected me that I am not even aware of?! Psalm 91 is God’s promise to us from His Word. He gives promises of protection against all kinds of evils including pandemics! If we will only get to know Him.

The first line in the passage above says to declare that “God is our refuge”, and put our full trust in Him that we are safe. Sometimes it can be difficult to trust in a God we can’t see. I can see that hand sanitizer kills 99.99% of gems. I can see from history that quarantine stops the spread of plague. But I can’t see God. I can’t see the angel’s He has commanded to protect me.

This is where faith comes in. Faith is the belief in things that cannot be seen.

Now is the time for faith. It is time to study the promises in God’s Word and claim them for ourselves, our families, our friends, our co-workers and our nation.

Where is God in the midst of a pandemic? He is in heaven, waiting for His children to call to Him, to put thier trust in Him and to seek Him out. If you want to take action today, you can pray the scriptures in Psalm 91 and claim God’s promise of protection!
